Santa Monica, California - Twilight director Chris Weitz spilled the tea on why Taylor Swift was rejected for a role in the franchise's hit 2009 movie, The Twilight Saga: New Moon.

In an appearance on Ashley Greene's – who played Alice Cullen in Twilight's film franchise – podcast The Twilight Effect, the director opened up for the first time about Swift's desire to be in New Moon, and why he chose to turn her down.

"Taylor Swift and I had the same agent at the time," Weitz told Greene. "He said, 'Taylor would like to be in this movie – not because of you, but she's a Twi-hard'' – the nickname avid Twilight fans gave themselves.

His and Swift's manager continued to plea the singer's case, allegedly telling Weitz, "She will be someone at the cafeteria, or the diner, or whatever, but she just wants to be in this movie."

Though the award-winning director said he initially considered the idea, he ultimately said no – a decision he now regrets. "I was like, 'Wow, I could have been like, hanging out with Taylor Swift."

For Weitz, he felt that "the moment [Swift] walks onto the screen for about five minutes, nobody is going to be able to process anything."

Considering Swift's rapid rise to superstar status, he likely wasn't wrong. Still, New Moon went on to win five MTV Movie awards without Swift's inclusion.

"She must've just been like, 'Who is this jerk who would say no?'" Weitz recalled. "But sometimes, you make decisions and you go, 'This is for the best of the film.'"

But Weitz's denial didn't seem to affect Swift's career much at all, as the songstress has racked up 11 Grammys and 34 American Music Awards throughout her career.
