MLB: Trevor Bauer has leave extended amid sexual assault allegations

Los Angeles, California - Dodgers starting pitcher Trevor Bauer has his administrative leave from baseball extended while scheduled hearings involving his sexual assault case have been postponed.

MLB was given the go-ahead on Tuesday to extend the non-disciplinary leave issued for Bauer (30), which originally started earlier this month. The MLB Players Association (MLBPA) had the final say in approving this extension

As per the regulations of the administrative leave, Bauer will still be paid his contracted salary with the Dodgers while he’s away. This is actually the third time that this arrangement has been extended, and it is now scheduled to end on August 6.

Bauer’s legal situation stems from allegations made by an unnamed woman who claims that Bauer sexually assaulted her on two separate occasions in May.

Since the local police and courts of Bauer’s jurisdiction handled the accusations, a temporary restraining order was filed as part of the legal process with cases of this nature. Civil hearings were also scheduled, starting with two of three appearances taking place this past Monday and Tuesday.

However, the third and potentially final hearing won’t happen until August 19th, well out of the timeframe of any leave Bauer was expected to take.

Bauer's teammates reportedly don't want him back

MLB authorities and local law enforcement in the state of California are currently conducting separate investigations, and it's possible that the league will decide to allow Bauer to return to his team before that last court date.

The proper protocol with MLB players facing such serious allegations allows the league to place players on administrative leave unilaterally, but it must have approval from the MLBPA to extend established periods of leave.

In an attempt to keep themselves distanced from Bauer, the Dodgers have gone as far as removing all of his merchandise from the team and online stores, as well as cancelling upcoming promotional nights at home games.
