Los Angeles, California - Any Laker would be forgiven for getting a bit nostalgic these days, given how badly the past NBA season went for the team. But a mysterious tweet by the franchise owner has fans wondering whether there's something else going on in LA.

Jeanie Buss has been president of Lakers since 2014 and has overseen some pretty steep ups and downs over her tenure.

But no on-court disappointment can match up to the devastating heartbreak of losing Kobe Bryant in January 2020. It's the kind of wound that will keep up you up at night, even after all this time, as the 60-year-old executive proved.

Late on Sunday night, she tweeted some moving thoughts about the Lakers legend who still looms so large in the franchise's identity.

"I miss KB. He would understand and explain everything that I’m not allowed to. Honestly he was the greatest Laker ever. He understood team over self. Meaning your rewards would come if you valued team goals over your own then everything would fall into place," Buss wrote.

The tweet clearly struck a chord, with over 50,000 likes, as well as thousands of retweets and replies.

Not all the reactions were quite as reflective, though, and it's not hard to see why many users drew saw a lot more than just sentimentality behind the tweet.

Russell Westbrook for Kyrie Irving has been the potential swap that's dominating headlines lately, and a good few people saw the timing of Buss' remarks as interesting – to say the least.

Was it just a roundabout way of airing frustrations at some deal being currently negotiated, or maybe even a pointed jab at someone in particular?

Whatever the case may be, this is unlikely to be just a sudden bout of late-night nostalgia.
