NFL: Texans in quarterback quagmire as Tyrod Taylor likely to be out for weeks

Houston, Texas - The Houston Texans lost to the Browns on Sunday, also losing their starting quarterback to the injury bug – but that doesn’t mean the troubled Deshaun Watson is the next man up.

Tyrod Taylor (32) went down in the Texans’ 31-21 loss on Sunday to the Browns, suffering an apparent hamstring injury to his left leg.

At this point, he’s listed on his team’s injury report as day-to-day while they wait for the results of an MRI, leaving his status going forward at least slightly uncertain with the possibility of a four-week absence, according to Texans head coach David Culley.

Despite the current quarterback crisis, Deshaun Watson doesn't seem to be on anyone's radar. In fact, he wasn’t even listed as active for the game and is extremely unlikely to be considered any time soon.

As every NFL fan is well aware of by now, Watson is in the midst of lawsuits launched by 22 women, who are accusing him of sexual assault.

The case is still pending, and though he hasn't been officially banned by the league from football-related activities, Watson hasn't really been involved with the Texans, who tried to deal him away in a potential trade earlier this summer.

To help get them through Sunday’s game, Houston went to the next man on the chart, a virtually unknown rookie named Davis Mills.

Mills was taken in the third round, 67th overall by the Texans in this past April’s draft. He went 8-for-18 passing, 102 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in his first bit of NFL career action.

Houston has another quarterback that they could potentially utilize in four-year veteran Jeff Driskell, who could be elevated from the practice squad if necessary.

The Texans (1-1) have a short week and are scheduled to take on the Panthers (2-0) at home on Thursday night.
