Toronto, Ontario - The Toronto Maple Leafs took care of the rival Montreal Canadiens 3-2, extending their NHL winning streak to five games.

The Leafs' performance did their recent record justice.

Toronto goalie Jack Campbell (29) became the franchise leader with 10-straight victories in net for the Leafs, as Auston Matthews (23) scored another goal to make it 28 in total, the league's highest so far.

Matthews also racked up an assist and so did Zach Hyman, who completed the scoring alongside T.J. Brodie. It was the 30-year-old former Calgary Flames star's first goal in Maples colors.

Toronto leads the NHL now with a 27-10-3 record, giving them a one-point lead in the overall standings with 57 in total.

The Maple Leafs lead their all-Canadian North Division, with the nearest team, Winnipeg, seven points behind them in the standings.

The Edmonton Oilers continued their divisional chase of Toronto by beating the Senators, 4-2. Ottawa has another chance to get that elusive first win in nine games against the Oilers tonight.

Meanwhile, the Blues managed to get one over the Vegas Golden Knights 3-1, while the Minnesota Wild definitely had a "wild" one in an 8-3 thriller against the Avalanche.

The Coyotes and Kings played out west, with LA grabbing a late third-period goal to get the 4-3 win.
