Baby with Batman mask birthmark becomes social media superstar as she gets miracle treatment!
Fort Lauderdale, Florida - When Floridian Luna Fenner was born, her parents were very worried about the birthmark, fearing that the birthmark covering their baby's face could be malignant or even life-threatening.
Fortunately, the doctors came to the conclusion that the pigmentation disorder was not dangerous. They diagnosed an extremely large, but benign mole and determined that it wouldn't affect Luna's overall health.
Worried about the potential stigma which her daughter might face, mom Carolina wanted to make sure Luna would never have to hide her appearance to avoid cruel mockery.
So, to make her little one's story known, she set up accounts for Luna on various social networks and regularly posted photos of her child there.
She wanted people to understand Luna's condition before they started pointing fingers at her.
Luna is now two-years-old and has nearly 300,000 users from all over the world following her on Instagram alone. Her account, luna.love.hope, shows the playful two-year-old already radiating confidence and joyful energy.
Miracle treatments in Russia help Luna
Her mother Carolina looked around the country for options, but only found expensive and invasive procedures to remove the birthmark. Eventually, the family discovered a medical expert in Russia who performs laser and skin grafts, according to Local 10 News.
Since she started her treatment, Luna is barely recognizable. The first major procedure was a huge success, with most of the dark mark now gone. The therapy is expected to last a total of 18 months, with eight painless interventions during that time.
In the meantime, Luna's Instagram still shares what life is like for her and her family, as they spend time living in Russia and learning about local culture in between the medical visits.
Their social media fame has also helped them in getting consulate permission to stay in Russia until Luna's treatments are complete.
Mother and daughter are now about to embark on their fifth trip abroad. The next step will be to treat the remnants of the mole in the area of Luna's eyes and around her eyebrows. Luna doesn't seem to mind how she looks, and is always full of giggles and cheer.
