When a rascal raccoon chose to plop himself in front of the camera to give his rear end a good and thorough scratching, he seemed to have no cares in the world.

His nonchalant booty-scratching has now gone viral online!

In an interview with The Dodo, Brian Lee provided more details about the funny story.

He and his wife work with the Ohlone Humane Society and regularly take care of stray cats on the streets of Fresno, California as part of a trap and neuter program. They lure the animals into humane traps with food, then have them neutered to control the population of feral felines on the street.

To monitor the cats, the Lees have installed a camera that allows them to peek in on the strays from time to time.

"We have avocado trees in the yard, and they would ripen around this time, which always attracts raccoons," Lee explained.

The raccoon did not stay for long, but just long enough for the funny snapshot

The raccoons quickly noticed that Lee and his wife were feeding the cats and hoped they too could get in on the goodies. And even though the couple never leave food out overnight, the raccoons still like to stop by to check – just in case.

It led to the rescue worker getting the hilarious snapshot of the raccoon.

"He didn't stay long because there was no food, but I think he just had an itch when he was on camera," Lee speculated.

At first, Lee didn't know what to make of the pictures. When he later showed his wife, she burst out laughing.

They had to share the images with some friends, of course, who were all amused at the raccoon's cheeky performance.

Looks like the raccoon snatching some food was the only itch that couldn't be scratched!
