"Sweet angel" rescue dog goes from "trash" to treasure

British Columbia, Canada - About a year ago, Instagrammer Shena was driving to work when she spotted what she thought was either a dog or a "black bag of garbage" at the edge of a blueberry field. Luckily, she decided to pull over.

"My gut told me I had to check it out," Shena said in a heartfelt Instagram post commemorating finding the injured animal near a field a year ago.

At the time, she "wasn't even 100% sure if what [she] saw was a dog or a black bag of garbage," but Shena said she didn't let doubt get in her way.

She instead found "a scared but sweet dog with a broken leg" in dire need of help.

Per her post and somber video of their first meeting, the Pit Bull "was nervous and didn't trust me, so it definitely took some effort to get her."

Shena immediately took the doggo to an animal hospital. There, the dog, who's now fittingly named Blueberry, had surgery to fix her leg.

It took several months for the dog's leg to heal, but these days, Blueberry is a running sand jumping bundle of joy and energy.

Shena's Instagram account is now a hit with more than 11,000 followers, where she highlights her escapades with her animal family.

She said it's still unclear how Blueberry ended up near a field with a broken leg, but what is clear is that this female pooch needed help and that "rescue saves lives."

The animal hospital originally tried to track down the dog's owners, but Blueberry didn't have an ID tag or a chip, and no one came forward to claim her.

In the end, Shena unexpectedly ended up giving what she thought might be trash a forever home.

As they say, "one man's trash is another man's treasure."

"The rest is history," she wrote. "So happy this sweet angel aka precious potato piglet, came into my life!"
