YouTuber arrested for animal abuse after outrageous flying dog stunt

New Delhi, India - There are some things you should never do, let alone film yourself doing. Case in point: an Indian YouTuber tied his dog to balloons and literally let it fly. The video drew a lot of criticism and led to his arrest.

Indian YouTuber Gaurav Sharma (32) likes to show off with his dog on Instagram, and his four-legged friend even has his own profile.

With 4 million subscribers on YouTube, Gaurav Sharma is not a child, and as a grown man and influencer, you'd think he'd be aware of the consequences of his actions.

But the prospect of clout can cloud people's minds. In a now deleted video uploaded to his channel Gauravzone, the 32-year-old ties dog named Dollar to several helium balloons.

All the while, he's standing on the roof of a car by a high-rise building. Then he lets go, and his poor pooch takes to the skies!

Fortunately, the animal was caught after a few seconds by another person who was waiting on a balcony.

But the whole maneuver could have ended tragically. No wonder the stunt earned Sharma nothing but criticism in the comments, As the BBC reported.

He quickly took the clip offline, but as we all know, the internet never forgets anything, which is why excerpts of the video soon appeared on other channels.

Scenes from the video were posted on Twitter

Then the backlash really kicked into gear. People for Animals (PFA) filed a complaint against the Indian man and later informed Twitter that the police had arrested him in Malviya, an affluent area of New Delhi.

By then, it was too late for half-apologies. Gaurav Sharma insisted in another video that he had taken "all safety measures" to protect the animal.

Sharma said he couldn't have harmed his dog because he loved Dollar more than anything and treats him like a small child.

It probably doesn't need pointing out that he just dug himself even deeper into the hole: tying small children to a bunch of floating balloons also tends to be frowned upon.

It remains to be seen how the police will deal with the influencer and which crimes he would be charged with.
