Los Angeles, California - Famous celebrity fashion designer and beloved cultural icon Bob Mackie has died aged 87, as revealed by a new statement from his team.
The so-called "Sultan of Sequins" is known for his extravagantly glamorous designs, most closely associated with all-time Hollywood greats like Cher and Diana Ross.
"It is with a heavy heart that we share the news that Mr. Bob Mackie passed away today," reads a statement posted to his Instagram on Monday.
"He lived his 87 years to the fullest, fulfilling his dream of being a Fashion and Costume Designer, which is all he ever wanted to do," it continued.
"His genius and extraordinary designs will live on forever, continuing to bring beauty into this world," the statement further added.
Mackie's celebrated – and often gloriously sparkly – fashion creations are not just historical artifacts, however.
On the contrary, his high-fashion clothing is still often seen adorning the bodies of modern-day music and film-industry royalty.
The designer's timeless dress offerings have recently been seen on red carpets and even Grammy stages, being donned by the likes of young up-and-coming A-listers like Sabrina Carpenter, Miley Cyrus, Zendaya, and many more.
