Los Angeles, California - British actor Tim Curry, best known for his role in The Rocky Horror Picture Show, died of coronary artery disease, the BBC and People magazine reported, citing his spokesperson and documents from the Los Angeles County health department.
Curry died at his home in Los Angeles on August 25 at the age of 80.
Previous health conditions, including a stroke and kidney cancer, also contributed to his death, according to the documents.
Curry had been partly paralyzed and used a wheelchair since suffering a stroke in 2012, largely withdrawing from the public eye. He continued to work as a voice actor, however.
Curry rose to international fame as the flamboyant, bisexual alien scientist Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He had originated the role in the stage musical The Rocky Horror Show, which caused controversy in Britain when it premiered in 1973 because of its sexual openness.
The film adaptation followed two years later and went on to become a cult classic.
Curry appeared in more than 30 films, often playing villains. His roles included the murderous clown Pennywise in the adaptation of Stephen King's It, the power-hungry Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers, and the devious hotel concierge in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.
