Hooters: The Movie is busting into theaters! What do we know so far?
Los Angeles, California – A movie about the infamous restaurant chain Hooters – best known for its chicken wings and scantily clad waitresses – is currently in the works. Give a hoot about the film project? Then read on for more info!
The American chain will soon be at the center of a feature film, according to the entertainment news site Deadline.
A director for the unexpected project appears to have already been found: Jon Rosenbaum.
The filmmaker has once been nominated for an Emmy, but is known for his work on movies like Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp and Benchwarmers 2: Breaking Balls.
The flick is being produced by 75-year-old Edward C. Droste and the other co‑founders of Hooters.
"I think people are going to enjoy watching how we were really just some guys who didn’t know what we were doing, but had a great time doing it," Droste said.
"There’s a lot of drama, but a lot of heart and fun too. And of course, our world-famous Hooters Girls are the real stars."
Droste is also slated to contribute to the screenplay.
Casting for the film has already begun.
What will the Hooters film be about?
"From the moment I first learned the Hooters origin story, I knew it would make an incredible movie," Rosenbaum explained.
"It’s the perfect combination of a hilarious buddy comedy and an inspiring biopic for a beloved American brand: Two lifelong friends with no idea what they’re getting themselves into, a crazy idea they’re willing to bet everything on, and a wild journey that culminates in the creation of something bigger than they could ever have imagined," he said.
"It’s not at all what people will be expecting – and it’s mostly true! I can’t wait to bring this story to life."
Founded in Florida in 1983, Hooters still had hundreds of locations worldwide just a few years ago.
By 2025, however, it had to file for bankruptcy.
The chain became known less for its food than for its exclusively female staff.
The waitresses – usually young and busty, in their 20s or 30s – wear revealing outfits, and their sex appeal has been and remains the primary marketing hook.
When the film will hit theaters or appear on streaming platforms is still unknown.
