Los Gatos, California - Wednesday has been a record-breaking success for Netflix, but is the TV show finding a new home before it earns a second season?

The series, which stars Jenna Ortega as the titular Addams Family daughter, broke the record previously held by season four of Stranger Things for most hours viewed for an English-language series on the streamer.

Wednesday has also grown popular through social media trends, including the TikTok-viral deadpan dance scene.

While it hasn't been confirmed officially, the odds are good that the series will score a second season – but it may not be on Netflix.

As an Addams Family project, Wednesday is technically owned by Metro Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM).

The problem is MGM was purchased by Amazon for $8.5 billion last year, which just might mean that Amazon will have the final say on the streaming rights for Wednesday.

With Amazon in the driver's seat, Wednesday may move from Netflix to Prime Video.

"For cancelling Warrior Nun, 1899, Bastard Son, First Kill, etc. etc. I hope Amazon pulls the rug out from under them and steals Wednesday. Netflix doesn't deserve the shows they have," one user tweeted.

The move may be a real issue for Netflix after suffering a significant subscriber loss in 2022, as they may need to negotiate with Amazon to maintain the rights to stream the hit series.

However, all hope for Netflix subscribers is not lost, as Deadline confirmed that Amazon did not have plans to make all MGM content exclusively available on Prime.

Wednesday fans will likely have to wait for the season two announcement for confirmation of the potential move.
