Nashville, Tennessee - After her botched execution, Christa Pike returned to solitary confinement at the end of September. As daily life there is increasingly difficult for her, the 50-year-old has now presented a list of demands.
In a personal statement provided to People, Pike expressed concern for her health and well‑being.
According to the statement, Pike, who was convicted of murdering a classmate when she was 18 years old, was assigned duties that would expose her to a "high risk of infection and further injury."
This would include cleaning her "roach‑infested shower." After the failed execution, she had to return to the emergency room but was not admitted for inpatient care.
Pike's statement was accompanied by an emergency petition demanding an end to her solitary confinement and her reintegration into the general prison population.
However, she does not want to be placed back in the wing where she was held before the botched execution.
"This pod houses inmates with significant histories of assaults and disciplinary problems," Pike wrote.
Given her "current physical condition," it would be dangerous to place her there.
"I am afraid that I will be seriously hurt if I am moved to that pod while I am this weak," Pike said. Instead, she wants to take part in shared meals, worship services, and recreational activities.
A decision on Pike's emergency request will be made in the coming days.
