Plymouth, Massachusetts - Minutes after a judge declared a hung jury in Lindsay Clancy's murder trial, her defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, expressed strong words against the district attorney while calling Clancy "brave."
"This is not a time for gloating, bragging, expressing victory," Reddington said outside of the courthouse roughly one hour after the judge called a mistrial. "It's a very sad case. [District Attorney] Cruz knows that he was crushed. He doesn't have a case."
Reddington then described Clancy as a "fantastic, wonderful individual," calling her "brave."
He said Clancy "sat there for seven weeks of the trial where no one had anything bad to say about her except the prosecutors and Tim Cruz."
"She grieves the loss of those three children," Reddington stressed, adding that he was proud of the foreperson for coming forward, noting that the jury was 11-1 for an acquittal.
"I hope that guy can sleep well at night," Reddington said of the juror in question that the foreperson previously said wasn't following the law while deliberating.
Before Reddington addressed the media, Tim Cruz, the District Attorney, said "there will be no decisions made today" regarding a retrial, adding, "I appreciate the hard work of the jury in this case."
He believes that the jury staying with the case for six days is something people should be grateful for.
"This has been an emotional trial for everybody," Cruz said. "But in the end, I bring it all back to the child victims in this case: Cora, Dawson, and Callan. This was, and has always been, about getting justice for those babies."
Rosemary Scapicchio, the lawyer representing Clancy in her upcoming civil trial for the medical system's failures, countered Cruz's claims, telling the media, "Every single day, all Lindsay wakes up and thinks about is her kids."
The civil case, Scapicchio stressed, will be about making sure doctors "start listening to women," because she believes they're doing a "disservice."
The next court date is set for September 29 at 9 AM. It's possible that Clancy's defense attorney, Reddington, could file a motion for acquittal.
