Grand Junction, Colorado – A shared car ride ended in an unimaginable tragedy: Five teenage friends lost their lives in Colorado when their vehicle apparently left the road late Saturday night and plunged down a steep slope. All the victims of the accident were just 17 years old.

The teenagers' car went over a cliff and came to rest on a slope. All five occupants received help too late, as the Daily Mail reported.

Rescue crews didn't arrive at the crash site until Sunday morning at about 7:45 AM. There, they found the wrecked vehicle on the hillside. According to authorities, all five 17‑year‑olds were pronounced dead at the scene.

Forensic reports say three of the teens were wearing seat belts, including the driver and front passenger. The other two were unbelted and were thrown from the car during the fall.

The exact cause of the disaster is still under investigation, but police are looking into whether excessive speed may have been a factor.

The identity of the driver at the time of the crash remains unclear, according to the report. The investigation is ongoing.

Friends and relatives identified the five deceased on social media as Braden Taylor, Tristan Tucker, Titus Gould, William Simms, and Tyler Martinez. Authorities did not immediately release the minors' names.

Tristan Tucker was described on a GoFundMe donation page as a lively teenager with great potential and a free spirit. He was reportedly about to start his senior year.

William Simms' sister also spoke out, writing that her little brother and his best friends were taken from life far too soon. The family can hardly comprehend the sudden loss.

Braden Taylor's grandfather expressed his grief as well. According to him, his grandson was riding in the passenger seat with four friends when the car plunged down the steep slope.

The timing of the accident makes it even more tragic: On Tuesday, schools in Grand Junction reopened their doors. Yet the first day back, usually marked by reunion joy, was dominated by the incomprehensible loss of those who died, as CPR News reported.

Three of the teenagers attended Grand Junction High School. The other two also lived in the city and had ties to the local school district, Mesa County School District 51.
