Texas Township, Michigan - A severe car crash in Michigan has claimed the lives of two young people. Three other teenagers were seriously injured, including the 16‑year‑old sister of one of the victims.
15‑year‑old Jordyn Bigham and the 16‑year‑old driver died on Sunday after their car left the road around 3:20 AM and slammed into a tree. Both were ejected from the vehicle, as The Sun reported.
Among the survivors is Jordyn's sister Jada, who remains in critical condition. Two other teenagers, who are 15 and 17 years old, were also seriously injured. Their condition is critical but stable.
Jordyn's grandmother, Christina Norris, told TV station WWMT that the two sisters were inseparable – wherever one was, the other was right there too.
The tragedy is especially hard on the family. As Jordyn's mother mourns her daughter, she also has to stay by the bedside of her severely injured daughter Jada.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help the family with funeral costs and the high medical expenses. Because Jada requires round‑the‑clock care, her mother is currently unable to work. So far, more than $72,000 has been raised.
The police are now investigating the cause of the accident. The Kalamazoo County sheriff's office expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and extended its sympathy to the injured and their families.
A crisis team has been set up at Mattawan High School, which the students attended, to provide support to their classmates and the staff during this difficult time.
A makeshift memorial with flowers and balloons near the crash site has also been assembled to honor the victims.
