Per the Associated Press, Moody got 50.9% of the vote to Nixon's 48%, with 99% of ballots counted.

Moody will now retain the Senate seat, to which she was appointed after Marco Rubio became secretary of state, for the final two years of the term.

Nixon stunned the political establishment when she won the Democratic nomination for Senate, despite being massively outspent by her rival, retired Lt. Col. Alex Vindman. Her progressive policy agenda energized many voters across Florida, traditionally a Republican stronghold.

"We didn’t get the result we fought for tonight. I’m not going to pretend that it doesn’t hurt," Nixon said in a statement on social media.

"But I want y’all to hear me. What we built together is REAL. Every door you knocked, every call you made, every dollar you gave and every friend you brought to the polls proved that working people in this state are ready for something better," she continued.

"That movement isn’t going anywhere, and neither am I. The fight continues."

During her election night remarks, Nixon appeared to leave the door open for a possible Senate run in 2028, when the seat is next up for a vote.
