Bernie Sanders is an independent senator from Vermont who caucuses with the Democrats. A self-described democratic socialist, he is known as a leading figure in the US progressive movement.

Sanders has been a member of the US Senate since 2007 and is currently ranking member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee. He previously served as mayor of Burlington, Vermont (1981–1989) and as a US representative (1991–2007). He unsuccessfully ran for president twice, in 2016 and 2020.

Sanders continues to push for his signature policies in Congress, including Medicare For All. He has organized a series of "Fighting Oligarchy" rallies around the country and regularly endorses progressive candidates for office who share his values.
