Washington DC - Democrat Jon Ossoff, seen as a possible candidate in the 2028 presidential elections, on Tuesday retained his Senate seat in Georgia, media projections showed.
The win does not represent a gain of a seat in the 100-member Senate, but is nevertheless good news for the Democrats.
NBC News and CBS News called the race in Ossoff's favor over Republican Mike Collins.
Ossoff centered much of his re-election campaign on targeting Donald Trump, ultimately catching the president's attention with a viral dig calling him a "draft-dodging crook".
Though heavily tipped as a possible 2028 presidential candidate, the 39-year-old has denied plans to run for the Oval Office.
In a Senate debate against Collins, Ossoff emphasized that he remained committed to serving his six-year term if re-elected.
Ossoff got some early praise from Pete Buttigieg, the former secretary of transportation under President Joe Biden, who wrote on X, "Senator Ossoff has worked hard delivering for the people of Georgia in the Senate, and voters know it.
"Congratulations on your victory, Senator!"
As voting results continue to roll in, Democrats remain predicted to win a majority in the House of Representatives and possibly seize the Senate.
