Donald Trump and Melania head to polls after years of decrying early voting
Palm Beach, Florida - President Donald Trump on Saturday, along with his wife First Lady Melania Trump, voted early in Florida for the November 3 midterm elections, in which the Republican Party could lose control of Congress.
Trump and his wife Melania cast their ballots ahead of an appearance by the president at a campaign rally in the southern US state of Georgia, according to reports by Bloomberg.
Though the president has, in the past, discouraged early voting and mail-in voting, it seems he is on a different tune this year as Republicans might lose control of Congress.
In a Truth Social video posted in early October, Trump said, “If your state has early voting, do not wait. Go out and vote. ... Vote early, vote by mail, or vote in person on Election Day.”
Per Bloomberg, when asked by reporters if he voted along party lines, meaning the Republican Party, Trump said, "Very much so."
Trump has long opposed early voting options like mail-in voting – though he submitted a mail-in ballot for a special election in Florida in March, and again voted by mail in Florida's Republican primary in August, per Politico.
Contrary to his voting habits of 2026, in March, he signed an executive order to severely limit mail-in voting, saying, without evidence, that it is vulnerable to fraud.
The order was followed by legal challenges, with the Supreme Court blocking the US Postal Service in September from carrying out his wishes to restrict mail-in ballots.
