Washington DC - A new report reveals that Don Jr., the eldest son of President Donald Trump, had his recent lavish wedding funded by Russian oligarchs.

According to a bombshell report published by ProPublica on Monday, Don Jr. married his fiancé Bettina Anderson in May during a three-day event on exclusively private islands located in the Bahamas.

The wedding included scantily clad dancers, a five-tier funfetti cake, and an extravagant fireworks show.

The outlet discovered that most of the festivities, at least hundreds of thousands of dollars worth, were funded by Umar Kremlev, a Russian oligarch close to President Vladimir Putin.

Kremlev reportedly paid to rent out one of the private islands, paid for the fireworks show, and had his team help in planning the events.

The previously unreported relationship is now raising eyebrows considering that, during his first term, President Trump faced accusations of working with Russia to influence the results of the 2016 presidential elections.

In his second term, President Trump has sought to form close ties with Putin, despite the leader's takeover of Ukraine.

It remains unclear why the oligarch funded the wedding, as it is believed that Don Jr. could have paid for it himself, as the price tag has been estimated to be around $300 million.

Frank Montoya Jr., a retired career FBI official, told ProPublica, "If I'm paying for your wedding, at some point, you’re going to owe me something."

Don Jr. and the Trump administration have been facing heavy scrutiny over the report, as critics have argued it presents a clear conflict of interest, raises foreign intelligence concerns, and seems to fall in line with the Trump family's habit of using the office to advance their own interests.

When asked about the scandal, New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez described it as "disgusting," arguing the Trump administration and family have been "selling out every single person in this country for a buck."

During a Senate hearing on Tuesday, FBI Director Kash Patel was asked about the scandal.

He claimed that he was unaware of the report and dismissed it, arguing that public reporting is generally "inaccurate."
