Washington DC - President Donald Trump and his administration have reportedly been discussing plans to build a baseball stadium in Grand Teton National Park to host a Major League Baseball (MLB) game.
According to The Washington Post, National Park Service Deputy Director Frank Lands visited Grand Teton in recent days to scout three potential locations within the park.
In a statement, the White House confirmed the visit came after the MLB asked the administration "if it was possible to host a game at a national park" in the same vein as its successful "Field of Dreams" stand-alone game event held in Iowa.
But they also insisted it was a priority strictly of the MLB, and that Lands was at the park on other business.
"The MLB happened to schedule their trip to Grand Teton at the same time that Frank was there," the White House claimed, adding it was "incorrect to say that the administration is sending officials to scout sites."
The reporting comes as Trump has gone to great lengths to intertwine himself with the sports world during his second term, such as having a fighting ring built to host an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) match in front of the White House this past summer.
As national parks hold some of the most protected lands in the country, such a move would set a new precedent.
When asked for her thoughts, Betsy Buffington, a director for the National Parks Conservation Association, told The Post the idea "is just – what would the word be? – ludicrous. Crazy. Ridiculous. I mean, I just can't fathom."
