Washington DC - In a series of bizarre social media posts, President Donald Trump attributed Thursday's dramatic stock market freefall to the Democratic Party's numerous midterm election victories.
"The Stock Market suffered one of the Worst Days in History based on the results of the Election," Trump claimed, citing no evidence, in a bizarre and rambling post to his Truth Social platform on Thursday.
"Such a sad thing to watch!" he continued. "It took so much work to get us to a level that no one has ever seen before, and then this. Your 401(k)s have, therefore, dropped."
"Remember, it wasn't Republicans, it was Dumocrats. Do not fear, however, we will soon, one way or the other, be BIGGER AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!"
A massive tech selloff on Thursday saw global markets wiped of roughly $2.5 trillion over less than 24 hours. South Korea's Kospi plunged by nearly 9% at market open on Friday, triggering a brief trade halt.
Significantly, Nasdaq closed in correction after dropping 5.52% and is now trading 10% below its record high in early October. Thursday ended as Nasdaq's worst day since Trump unveiled his "Liberation Day" tariff regime in April, 2025. The same can be said for the S&P 500 and the Dow.
Analysts have blamed the stock selloff on fears that the Democratic Party will threaten the AI data center investment boom. The building of such facilities have faced broad opposition from voters across the US, regardless of political affiliation.
"The Stock Market crashed today because the Dumocrats had a big Tuesday," Trump wrote in a follow-up post to Truth Social. "So sad to see, you only have yourselves to blame!"
