Washington DC - CNN said Friday that President Donald Trump's plan to ban the TV network and two other news outlets from the White House was an "illegal assault" on press freedom, and POLITICO has since chimed in, as well.

CNN argued its reporting was "fair and accurate" and was protected under the US Constitution, adding that a ban "would be an illegal assault on that fundamental and constitutionally-protected right."

Following suit, news outlet Politico vowed Friday to "vigorously defend" its rights after Trump threatened to ban it from the White House alongside CNN and MS Now: POLITICO will continue to fairly report on this White House and future ones. We will vigorously defend our First Amendment rights against any attempt to restrict them," it said in a statement.

"The claims that POLITICO received government subsidies are false and have been thoroughly debunked," POLITICO added.

While members of the press reacted to Trump's immediate ban, such as CNN anchor Jake Tapper claiming his issues with reporters writing "negative stories" show how "there is everything right with the USA, and our First Amendment," the president has moved on to matters involving Greenland, claiming Friday that he had struck an "infinite" deal with Denmark to give the US control over Greenland's security and bar foreign adversaries from setting up bases there.

"I am pleased to announce that the United States of America has entered into an Agreement with The Kingdom of Denmark, and Greenland, that gives the United States permanent control over security, and all other needs, in Greenland," Trump said on his Truth Social network.

"From now on, no US adversary can EVER have a base in Greenland, have a military presence in Greenland, or make sensitive investments in Greenland, without our express written approval."
