Washington DC - President Donald Trump has been causing a stir once more with another kind of "renaming" controversy, but now he's aiming for something bigger than a body of water or a state: Trump seemingly wants all of North America.

The Republican leader shared a photoshopped map of North America on the Truth Social platform, which he owns.

The map shows nations like Canada, Mexico, Cuba, and Greenland, as well as areas of Central America and the Caribbean.

All of these territories are filled with an American flag pattern, and the whole conglomeration is titled "United States of America."

Critics say that this messaging evokes troubling themes of Manifest Destiny and potential ideas of conquest, while others say that the president is simply "trolling."

Although skeptics may say that Trump is joking in this post, the "just joking" argument was also used in defense of other similar instances – right up until he made good on his threats.

For example, Trump previously floated the idea of renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the "Gulf of America" and considered swapping Lake Ontario's moniker for "Lake America." Both of these unlikely renamings eventually came to pass via official presidential orders.

Most recently, Trump has been suggesting that New Mexico should have its name changed to "New America" and saying that the Strait of Hormuz should be called "Trump Strait."
