Cairo, Egypt - Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and his unofficial foreign envoy, recently held a meeting with Hamas leaders to discuss the war in Gaza.

According to Axios, Kushner – joined by Nickolay Mladenov and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair – met with Hamas political leader Khalil al-Hayya, Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad, Qatari diplomat Ali al-Thawadi, and a senior Turkish official.

The meeting comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a 20-point peace plan proposed by the US seeking to end the conflict, which has left more than 70,000 dead since 2023.

A source told the outlet that the objective was "translating" Hamas' obligations to demilitarize Gaza "into concrete, verifiable steps," which includes transferring governing authority to the Palestinian technocratic government after Hamas relinquishes power.

Hamas reportedly reiterated its commitment to the deal.

The three representatives from the US are all members of the Board of Peace, a group formed by President Trump made up of leaders and senior officials from 19 countries as a forum for resolving international conflicts.

Kushner is now expected to travel to Israel, where he is scheduled to meet with Netanyahu to discuss "corresponding steps" his country must take, such as "corresponding withdrawals" along with Hamas.

Kushner, who is married to Trump's daughter Ivanka, served as an informal advisor to Trump's first campaign in 2017 and made billions of dollars making overseas business deals while in the role.
