Trump threatens Ukraine for attacks on Russian oil refineries, teases joining Saudi strikes: "We move very quickly"

Washington DC - President Donald Trump on Saturday urged Ukraine to replace Volodomyr Zelensky with a new leader, lashing out at him for strikes on Russian oil refineries that have contributed to pre-election high diesel prices.

Trump told reporters at the White House that he had told Zelensky to "do what you want" against Russia, but "don't hit refineries."

"He better damn well stop," Trump said, before adding that he thinks "it's time for Ukraine to get a new president" who will agree to end the war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's top economic negotiator on Saturday welcomed Donald Trump's call for a new Ukraine president, describing his remarks as "iconic and historic."

"President Trump joins the many who believe that Ukraine needs leadership actually focused on peace, not Zelensky's warmongering... Iconic and historic," Kirill Dmitriev, the Kremlin's special envoy on economic cooperation, said in a post on X.

Trump also weighed in on Saturday about the possibility of joining Saudi strikes against Iran-backed Houthis following the deadly missile strike on Riyadh's international airport, which is now closed.

"We may. We're going to look at it. We just found out about the recent attack, so we'll make a decision," Trump told reporters at the White House. "We move very quickly."
