Washington DC - With the November midterm elections fast approaching, recent Labor Day polling found that President Donald Trump and Republicans have a long battle ahead of them.

According to Newsweek's analysis of Civiqs' rolling online tracking poll, the president currently holds a 34% approval rating against 60% disapproval, giving him a net approval rating of -26.

A map of the data shows the majority of the country against the president, with only a few states still hanging on in support.

The poll – which surveyed 128,074 voters across the US between January 20, 2025, and September 4, 2026 – found that he has lost support from many demographics and key states that had once backed him.

While he continues to tout strong support in deep red states, several have notably seen sharp declines: Kentucky, Ohio, Texas, and Nevada have all seen more than a 25-point decline since Trump's return to office.

Support in the few red states still on the MAGA bandwagon has significantly declined. Wyoming has fallen from +47 to +15, West Virginia has declined from +35 to +13, and North Dakota has dropped from +34 to +10.

Even worse, he is underwater in every major swing and battleground state and only managed to gain positive double-digit approval in three states: Alabama, Idaho, and Utah.

Newsweek notes that the polling is particularly important, as Labor Day is traditionally marked as the point when voters begin paying closer attention to fall campaigns.

The results also come as Trump and Republicans have been desperately trying to boost support among the base by promoting the president and his MAGA brand, rather than the individual candidates.

On September 9 and 10, the president will be hosting a "Trump-a-Palooza" midterm convention in Texas, where he will be the keynote speaker for both nights.
