Trump's new press secretary Katie Zacharia makes stunning admission amid mounting pressure
Washington DC - President Donald Trump's new press secretary, Katie Zacharia, recently admitted she never actually passed the bar, though she's been telling people she's a lawyer for years.
In an interview with Real America's Voice on Thursday, Zacharia explained that she was "already pre-registered to take the bar" when she decided to instead move to China to be with her husband and start a new job at a Chinese law firm.
"I was already incredibly distracted and overwhelmed and excited for finally being married to someone who I’d been long distance from for at least a year," Zacharia said.
"We just said let's take this time, and I'll take the bar and see what happens," she continued.
"The results are somewhat inconsequential because I knew I wouldn't need the bar in China."
Her admission came after the Wall Street Journal reported the day prior that Zacharia had sat for the California bar exam in 2011 after graduating from Pepperdine University but did not pass.
There has been heightened scrutiny about her legal credentials as she has described herself as a lawyer for years. When Trump announced her appointment, he even described her as "an attorney."
In her interview, Zacharia insisted she has never described herself as an "attorney," and claimed there was "a lot of misinformation" about how she has identified herself professionally.
She also recently told The New York Times that she consulted with her alma mater about the label, as she was told she shouldn't use attorney or esquire, but lawyer was OK.
