FBI raids Eric Swalwell's home and seizes devices amid bombshell sexual assault allegations
Washington DC - Former Democratic Congressman Eric Swalwell's home was raided by the FBI on Sunday, a day after federal agents seized numerous electronic devices at San Francisco Airport.
Both the seizure of Swalwell's electronic devices and the FBI's raid of his home were in connection to an ongoing probe into allegations of sexual assault, sources told CNN under condition of anonymity.
Swalwell was forced to resign from Congress and drop his promising campaign for California governor after the allegations emerged in April, including rape allegations from a former staffer.
According to the staffer, Swalwell raped her in 2024 when she was heavily intoxicated, leaving her seriously injured.
"I was pushing him off of me, saying no," she recounted to CNN. "He didn't stop."
In 2019, the staffer alleges that she woke up naked with him in a hotel room after a night out drinking, with no memory of what happened.
As a result of the allegations, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, and the FBI opened criminal investigations into Swalwell.
More than a dozen women told CNN they had experienced uncomfortable and often sexual situations with Swalwell.
First reported by the San Francisco Standard, FBI agents presented Swalwell with a search warrant when he landed on Saturday and seized numerous devices, including his cellphone, MacBook Pro, charging cable, and wall charger.
Agents then seized undisclosed evidence from his home in Washington DC, the Daily Mail reports.
Swalwell has denied all allegations against him, telling the San Francisco Chronicle back in April that they "are false and come on the eve of an election."
"I will defend myself with the facts and where necessary bring legal action," he said.
The news of the raid came as California State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab won a resounding victory in her bid to replace Swalwell in the US House of Representatives.
