Carthage, North Carolina - Former Senator Kyrsten Sinema will soon face a reckoning in a lawsuit from a woman who claims the politician had an affair with her ex-husband while in office.

Sinema is being sued by Heather Ammel, the ex-wife of the politician's former security guard Matthew Ammel, under the state's alienation-of-affection law. She is seeking $75,000 in damages after the Arizona senator destroyed her marriage.

According to Fox News, recent court filings reveal that Sinema sat for a deposition on July 31, during which she detailed multiple accounts of engaging in relations with Ammel, who she knew was married with three children.

The first time was around Memorial Day 2024, when the two were staying in an Airbnb in Napa, California, along with three other people.

"We were outside. Matt kissed me. We went inside and had sex," Sinema admitted.

The following month, the two had relations again when they traveled to New York City to attend the wedding of CNN anchor Jessica Dean.

The affair continued, with the two regularly hooking up and sending flirty texts. Though she claims their last relation took place in October 2024, TMZ reports that she bonded Ammel out of jail after he was arrested for assault in November 2025.

Despite admitting to wrongdoing, Sinema and her legal team have argued the affair never took place in North Carolina, where the lawsuit was filed, and should therefore be tossed.

Sinema is scheduled to appear in court for an evidentiary hearing on August 19.

Sinema was first elected to the Senate in 2019 as a Democrat, but after facing regular criticism for voting against the party's interests, she left and registered as an Independent. At the time, she argued that she had "never fit neatly into any party box," and wanted to appeal to others who are "tired of the partisanship."

While running for reelection in 2024, she ended up dropping her bid in March after polling indicated that she had no chance to win the race.

Her vacant seat was later filled by Democrat Ruben Gallego, who narrowly defeated MAGA Republican Kari Lake by a little more than a point.
