Washington DC - Florida Congressman and gubernatorial candidate Byron Donalds has responded to critics after evidently trying to distance himself from President Donald Trump ahead of the November midterms.

According to the Miami Herald, Donalds has removed several references to his endorsement from Trump from his website, including banners, prominent headings, and buttons asking viewers to "Chip in to Support Trump Endorsed Byron Donalds."

A photo of Donalds and his wife, Erika Donalds, with the president was also removed.

Mention of Trump's endorsement is now only included in a rolling banner alongside a number of other conservative endorsements.

In an X post shared on Tuesday, Donalds dismissed the reporting, insisting he is "proud to have President Trump's endorsement" and referred voters to the policy page of his website.

The move comes as Trump's approval ratings sink to historic lows – hovering around 30% – as Republicans fight to maintain their majority in the House and Senate in the midterm elections.

Despite his low numbers, the Republican Party has chosen to rally behind Trump's insistence that voters are still behind him. The president has further pushed the idea that he "is on the ballot" in an effort to excite his MAGA base to vote for candidates he has endorsed.

Donalds is a staunch MAGA Republican who has represented Florida's 19th District since 2021.

The Congressman is now running to succeed Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, who will reach his term limit by the end of the year.
