Mamdani allies Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and Brad Lander win New York congressional elections
New York, New York - Several allies of New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani won their congressional midterm elections on Tuesday.
In New York's seventh congressional district, Democratic Socialists of America member Claire Valdez defeated Republican Melvin Rivera to win her first term in Congress.
Fellow DSA member Darializa Avila Chevalier won in the 13th congressional district, taking a sizable lead over Republican Jomo M. Williams.
"From the bottom of my heart, thank you. DC, I'll see you in January," Avila Chevalier posted on X after the win.
Former New York City Comptroller Brad Lander easily beat Republican Jennifer E. Moore to represent New York's 10th congressional district.
"Thank you, NY-10 voters! It’s a profound honor to represent you in the U.S. Congress. Whether you voted for me or not, I’ll work hard to serve you, your families, and your neighbors every single day," Lander wrote on X.
I’ll fight fiercely to make life more affordable for working families. To combat the corruption of Trump and his billionaire cronies. To restore trust in democracy by making government deliver. To organize alongside you. To stand up for the human rights of our neighbors, near and far."
In the 14th district, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez overwhelmingly won her election for another term in Congress.
Meanwhile, New York Governor Kathy Hochul handily won her bid for reelection, as did the state's Attorney General Letitia James.
