Rome, Georgia - Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene recently called out Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for using God and the Bible to sell war to Americans.
In an X post shared on Friday, Greene criticized Hegseth for recently launching his "Send Me" tour of duty, an initiative in which he gives speeches using Biblical verses and linking the US military to Christianity in an effort to inspire troops to fight in the war in Iran.
Greene argued he was using Isaiah 6:8, the scripture that inspired the name of the tour, to "justify war," and accused President Donald Trump's administration of "[invoking] God's name to advance man's agenda."
"This is manipulation. This is using God’s name in Vain. This is not what we voted for," she wrote.
Greene was once an ardent supporter of Trump's while in Congress, but after stepping down in January, she has become one of his fiercest critics.
Her remarks come after Congressman Thomas Massie – who is a close ally of Greene's – filed articles of impeachment against Hegseth on September 15, accusing the secretary of defying Congress with the Iran war and several other offenses.
Massie and Greene are part of a group of former MAGA loyalists – which includes far-right political commentator Tucker Carlson – who have turned on President Trump in his second term over several issues, such as his loyalty to Israel.
The group has been teasing the idea of starting their own alternative political party that more aligns with Trump's "America First" agenda they argue he has since abandoned.
