Matt Gaetz provides legal aid to former NBA player Royce White in his anti-trans WNBA stunt

New York, New York - Disgraced former Congressman Matt Gaetz recently teamed up with a former NBA player to troll the WNBA over their stance on transgender athletes.

In a statement to Fox News, Gaetz announced that his firm, Gaetz Law, is "currently providing legal counsel" to former NBA star Royce White, who they claim has recently transitioned.

"Royce White changed how the NBA thinks about player mental health. Now, Royce White is an inspirational voice for Black transexual lesbians everywhere who aspire to play in the WNBA," Gaetz said.

The announcement comes after White sent a letter, written by Gaetz, alerting the WNBA of his declaration to be part of the 2027 Draft.

The letter says that with his signature, "Ms. White identifies as a transgender woman," and argues a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the WNBA and the WNBPA "affirms her eligibility."

White has threatened to file a discrimination lawsuit if his declaration isn't approved but said he would back off if the league provides "a definitive statement about guys with a pair of balls playing in the Women's Association."

In recent weeks, the WNBA has been entrenched in a culture war after right-wing critics – who identify with President Donald Trump's repeated claims that men are taking over women's sports – began scrutinizing the league's gender eligibility criteria and spread rumors that teams would soon be overrun with trans women.

Though transgender individuals only make up around 2% of the US population – and even far fewer are involved in sports – the debate over their rights to exist in certain spaces has become a main issue among the right.

Remember Matt Gaetz?

Gaetz was once a Florida Congressman who built a reputation as a staunch, MAGA conservative. Trump tapped Gaetz in 2024 to be Attorney General – a controversial choice, as the congressman was facing a House Ethics Committee investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and drug use during his time in office.

Gaetz attempted to sabotage the investigation by abruptly resigning from Congress, but the committee ultimately voted to release the report to the public, which revealed he paid tens of thousands of dollars to women – some of whom were allegedly minors – for sex or drugs on at least 20 separate occasions.

Despite the revelations, the Department of Justice chose not to charge him, and Gaetz has maintained his status in MAGA as a news reporter for One America News.
