Melania Trump to host Ukraine, Russia "representatives" at White House – but questions remain
Washington DC - First Lady Melania Trump will host "representatives" of Russia and Ukraine in Washington, the White House said Tuesday, without specifying a date or offering further details about who may attend.
The meeting between parties from the two warring countries will take place at the White House and represents an "extraordinary moment in American history," the statement said.
On Thursday, the wife of President Donald Trump will also make a statement on a recent four day-long truce in southern Kherson region, the White House said.
The truce, announced by Melania Trump on October 23 and which began on October 27, was the longest in the war and enabled civilians to leave the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky.
This Wednesday, negotiators from the US, Europe, Ukraine, and NATO will hold talks in Brussels ahead of the resumption next week of US-mediated talks to end the Ukraine war, the European Commission said.
Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff had previously announced that American negotiators would meet European and NATO officials in Brussels this week, ahead of US-Ukraine-Russia talks in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11.
Wednesday's meeting will involve representatives from Kyiv, the US, France, Germany, Britain, NATO, and the World Bank, EU spokesperson Paula Pinho told reporters.
The meeting "will build on earlier talks that took place in Miami with Ukraine and with the US also at the time, in view of lasting, sustainable peace in Ukraine," she said.
Pinho said the talks focused on "Ukraine's post-war reconstruction and prosperity" would take place at the level of national security advisers on the European side, without specifying who would represent the US.
