Moscow, Russia - The son of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was recently hit with a warrant in Russia for his immediate arrest.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, Conor Kennedy (32) was added to the country's International Wanted List after the Basmanny District Court of Moscow authorized his arrest on Wednesday.
Conor stands accused of "acting as a mercenary for the Ukrainian armed forces," which carries a possible penalty of seven to 10 years in prison.
His legal defense attempted to appeal the ruling but was rejected by an appeals court.
The move comes after Conor shared an Instagram post in October 2022 revealing that he had volunteered to fight alongside Ukrainian troops because he was "deeply moved" by their resolve.
While he said he only served for a short time, he shared that he fought in the Kharkiv region as part of Ukraine's International Legion and kept his identity mostly secret.
"I told one person here where I was, and I told one person there my real name. I didn't want my family or friends to worry, and I didn't want to be treated differently there," he wrote.
While his son has expressed empathy for Ukraine, Kennedy has instead advocated for diplomacy between the US and Russia.
In an interview in 2023, Kennedy argued that the US "should be making friends with Russia, not enemies," instead of attempting to implement a regime change.
