New York, New York - Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani went on a shocking and highly Islamophobic rant directed at New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani's attendance at this year's 9/11 commemoration.

"Having lost friends there and being very close to many of the families, it offends me that he’s coming," Giuliani said during an interview with far-right news outlet Newsmax, referring to Mamdani's plan to attend the city's 9/11 25th Anniversary ceremony.

Giuliani said "there's no question" Mamdani should skip the 9/11 ceremony. He declared that those who undertook the attacks on September 11, 2001, did so "in the name of the Muslim religion" and "weren't hiding it like Mamdani is trying to hide it."

"He doesn't agree that September 11 was an Islamic terrorist attack on the United States of America," he claimed. "Having lost friends there… it offends me that he's coming – this is not a place for like the Arab princeling who gave me $10 million so that he could say this was caused by American and Israeli foreign policy."

He continued on his rant, baselessly claiming that Muslims are trying to "take over" parts of the US and Europe, declaring: "They want to dominate us, that's what they're taught from the day they begin their extremist religious education – Mamdani is a clear supporter of that."

Giuliani has repeatedly found himself in political scandals over the last decade, including serious legal trouble over his insistence that President Joe Biden stole the 2020 presidential election from Donald Trump.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul slammed Giuliani's comments as "wildly inappropriate," saying that "this is a moment in our time we should be united as a people."

"I'm proud to be the mayor of the city. I love the city. I love this country," Mamdani said this week. "What I want this week to be a focus on is on the families whose loved ones were stolen from them 25 years ago."
