Congressman Byron Donalds got 47.8% of the vote on Tuesday, per the Associated Press. He came well ahead of Republican challengers Jay Collins (25.2%), James Fishback (10.5%), Paul Renner (8.6%), and Bobby Williams (4.1%).

Donalds had the endorsement of President Donald Trump heading into the primary. Over the weekend, he also received support from Trinidadian rapper Nicki Minaj, who has become a vocal MAGA enthusiast after gaining a Trump Gold Card, which fast-tracked her citizenship application.

Donalds, who has represented Florida's 19th congressional district since 2021, announced his run to replace term-limited Governor Ron DeSantis in February of last year.

"I am grateful to my family, my team, my volunteers, and every Floridian who powered us to this victory," Donalds posted on X on Tuesday. "Now is the time for the Republican Party to unite."

The GOP nominee is set to face David Jolly in the general election on November 3.

Jolly, a former US representative, got 61% of the vote in Tuesday's Democratic primary, defeating fellow contenders Dayna Marie Foster (15.1%), Dotie Joseph (9.6%), Evelyn Castillo-Bach (7.7%), and Thomas Eloy Fernandez (3.8%).

The Democratic nominee is a former Republican who left the party in 2018 and became a vocal critic of Trump. He officially switched his party registration in April 2025 to run in the gubernatorial race.

"Folks, there is a new coalition emerging in American politics tonight, and it's starting right here in the state of Florida," Jolly said in his victory speech. "A coalition rooted in the everyday majority that understands the economy should continue to grow, but it's got to grow for everybody. That we embrace capitalism. That we let the private sector lead, but the government needs to do its part to fill in the gaps, to provide for housing, for health care, for education, clean water, clean air, safe communities. And a coalition that knows that everybody's rights should be protected and their dignity respected."

Also on Tuesday, Democratic Senate candidate Angie Nixon won a stunning victory in her Florida special election primary as she prepares to take on Trump-backed Republican Ashley Moody in November.
