Providence, Rhode Island - Rhode Island voters hit the polls on Tuesday. Here are the top results from the state's key primaries this midterm election year.
Five-term US Senator Jack Reed (76.9%) easily won his bid for reelection, defeating two Democratic challengers from the left in Connor F. Burbridge (13.4%) and Luis Daniel Munoz (9.7%), per the Associated Press.
Reed is now set to face off against Raymond T. McKay, the former City of Warwick network and telecommunications manager who ran uncontested in the Republican primary.
In Rhode Island's first congressional district, Democratic incumbent Gabriel Amo will face Republican Kellie Keenan. Both candidates ran uncontested on Tuesday.
In the second district, uncontested Democratic incumbent Seth Magaziner will go up against Republican primary winner Victor Mellor (58.1%) for the US House seat.
Tuesday also saw several incumbents lose their races for reelection.
Incumbent Governor Dan McKee (37.6%) lost the Democratic primary to former CVS executive Helena Buonanno Foulkes (62.4%). That makes McKee the first elected governor in over a decade to lose his renomination bid.
Meanwhile, democratic socialist state Representative David Morales (52.5%) won the Democratic primary for mayor of Providence, triumphing over incumbent Brett Smiley (47.5%).
Morales, who is endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Ro Khanna, has listed rent stabilization, fair taxation, and the creation of an ICE Out task force among his top campaign priorities.
Next Tuesday, Delaware will be the last state to hold primaries before the general election in November. The midterm results will determine which party controls each chamber of Congress.
