California - An injured climber in California had to be rescued by a helicopter crew on Friday afternoon after a terrifying fall, but the rescue helicopter nearly experienced a tragedy all on its own.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced that rescuers were called to the Courtright Reservoir in the southwestern mountains. A climber fell from a steep rock face known as the “Power Dome” and ended up on a ledge roughly 700 feet above the ground.

The multi‑person crew flew their helicopter to the accident site. A rescuer was lowered down on a rope and secured the injured athlete. Impressive footage of the operation is available on social media.

The injured climber was successfully retrieved and taken by ambulance to a hospital on the ground.

On September 13, a few days after the video was first posted on CHP's Facebook page, someone claiming to be the rescued man's daughter-in-law provided an update in the comments section on his condition: "He is OK in the hospital. Broken ribs and legs. He is in good spirits. Thank you to the crew that got him out there safe!"

At the time of publication, the video of the rescue operation has been viewed over 32,000 times.

Further details about the injured person were not known.
