St. Petersburg, Florida - A fiery and dramatic incident at a gas station in Florida saw a woman set a vehicle and another person on fire.

According to Fox 13 News, the incident occurred on Thursday at 8 PM when a woman stopped for fuel at the gas station on 40th Avenue North. While she was there, Eleanor Crawford approached her and asked to use her phone.

The woman agreed, but when Crawford also asked for money, the request was denied, which enraged the 41‑year‑old enough to set the fuel pump on fire with her lighter.

As a result, the woman's car caught fire. The victim suffered second‑degree burns to her arm and back and had to be treated at a local hospital.

A witness named Scotty Gramling, who had parked nearby, ran to the blaze and helped the injured person before calling emergency services.

He said a “fireball” illuminated the gas station scene, and he had observed some sort of confrontation from across the street.

The suspect was arrested a few blocks away about 20 minutes later. She is said to have an extensive criminal record and has repeatedly drawn attention for drug and alcohol abuse.

"I don't know if alcohol and drugs were involved, but indicative of her history, there might've been something that diminished capacity there," Assistant Police Chief Mike Kovacsev said. "Why would she even do something like this?"

"It's kind of a unique case because you don't see anything like this, especially something that results in such horrific burns. But they went out there, they worked with the fire department, and luckily they were able to get her stabilized, and she's going to make it," Kovacsev added.

Crawford now faces charges of attempted murder and arson.

According to a police statement, the victim of the fiery attack and the accused (Crawford) were not known to each other.
