Earlier this week, the cats of Amandalyn Petitclerc and her fiancé Cory kept jumping onto the dresser. Something seemed to be upsetting the furballs – but what was it?
"No matter how many times Cory placed them back on the floor, the two of them hopped right back up," Petitclerc told The Dodo in an interview.
The couple soon realized the furry friends were trying to tell them something.
Apparently, an animal had hidden behind the dresser. So, Petitclerc grabbed a flashlight to get a better look.
"There it was: a wiggling tail and a set of ears," she explained to the pet magazine.
"That's all we saw before it slipped away behind and underneath the dresser."
Petitclerc and her fiancé then tried to coax the uninvited guest out from under the dresser.
All they heard was a desperate squeak. Finally, Petitclerc spotted the mouse – and could hardly believe what she saw!
This tiny mouse got caught in a cat toy!
The poor thing had gotten tangled in one of the cats' spiral toys!
But there was also good news: the little rodent seemed unharmed, despite its precarious situation.
Petitclerc was able to retrieve it easily. She first placed the mouse in an unused terrarium that was out of reach of her house cats.
Then, she took the terrarium with her fiancé to a nearby woodland to release the rodent.
In the meantime, the little one had managed to free itself from the spiral.
So, it was an ultimately simple matter to move the mouse from the terrarium back into its territory.
"The little guy slowly walked out of the terrarium as if in pure disbelief that he was able to regain his freedom," the cat owner said.
At home, however, the mouse would have hardly lasted long with the three cats!
