Columbia, South Carolina - As if the unhoused weren't already struggling enough in this heat, a man living on the streets showed a big heart when he discovered a suffering kitten on the sidewalk.
In the scorching heat of South Carolina, an unhoused man spotted a baby kitten on the hot roadway and rushed to help it.
He quickly realized the little furball was showing symptoms of heat exhaustion.
Knowing he couldn't aid the weakened animal given his own difficult circumstances, he immediately took the gray‑white cat to an air‑conditioned CVS pharmacy, where he met an employee who is active on Reddit as "Narrow_While."
She posted about the incident in a thread, praising the homeless stranger's good heart.
"He was trying to do the right thing knowing it was way too hot and he couldn't care for it," the Reddit user wrote.
According to her, the man asked her to take the kitten and try to find it a home.
"No one else would take him so I have a cat now lol," she said, then added with a laugh.
"Honestly it's been unexpected but also great. I've had him for about two weeks now and he is such a sweet cat even tho he loves to bite me!"

"He's chilling now. I took him to the vet and they think he was about 9 weeks when I got him," she says in an update.
In the meantime, the stray has also gotten a name.
"Purrling Paawland is his official name. But generally called juice or Mr kitty," the user wrote.
Many readers wanted to learn more about the rescuer and asked the CVS worker to inform him about the kitten's condition.
The new cat mom has already taken the initiative and arranged for the man to receive food and water, and she promised in her post that she would keep him updated in the future.
