Rescue cat finds someone to love at an adoption event – and refuses to let go!
BSD City, Indonesia – No one knows what this cat has been through, but it must have been a lot. Luckily, the little kitty named Fungi was found in June by the animal foster group Bubupawpaw in Indonesia.
"When we first found him, his body was covered in a fungal skin infection, which is actually how he got [his] name," Shyaniz, a member of Bubupawpaw's rescue, told The Dodo.
The poor feline had bald patches, inflamed skin, and severe pain. He was also terrified of people.
Getting the cat's health issues under control took a while. After months of care, his skin was finally fungus‑free, and his fur was growing back. What remained was Fungi's fear.
"Fungi is a very shy and timid kitten, especially around strangers," Shyaniz explained.
Nevertheless, rescuers took the timid animal to the Indonesia International Pet Expo, a large event for adoption.
"During the event, he spent most of his time hiding inside the litter box, so not many potential adopters showed interest in him," Shyaniz said.
Luckily, a young woman named Angelica appeared and noticed the tomcat. "She was drawn to Fungi right away," Shyaniz said.
Then, something amazing happened. Despite his great fear of strangers, Fungi not only let Angelica pick him up, but he clung to her arm like a baby.
"We're still stuck in the moment when our foster kitten, Fungi, held on so tightly to his future mom," the rescuers gushed on Instagram along with a video of the amazing moment.
This timid cat found someone to trust and refused to let go, as the video with over 600,000 views shows. No wonder Angelica fell in love and adopted him on the spot. Fungi got a new name and a new home – he now goes by Flowey.
