Dachshund with a crooked jaw faces another heartbreak – then comes an emotional surprise
This small dachshund had a rough start in life: As a puppy, he was attacked by another dog and has had a crooked jaw ever since. No one wanted to take the little Newt in permanently until, one day, he was secretly adopted.
Melanie Price hadn't originally planned to take in another dog, but she couldn't stop thinking about the little dachshund.
When Newt was barely 11 weeks old, she spotted a photo of the puppy on the website of the family‑run breeding, boarding, and daycare facility Dream‑A‑Dream Dachshunds in Texas.
She showed the picture to her husband, but since the couple already had three dogs, another adoption was out of the question.
As she explained to People, "I showed my husband, and we had three dogs at the time. We had no intention of adopting another dog."
"He kind of brushed it off and didn't say anything else about it," Melanie said.
At first, she gave the post little thought, but the dachshund stayed on her mind. Later on, her husband showed her a post sharing an update about Newt.
As Dream‑A‑Dream Dachshunds explained, the little four‑legged friend had already found a family, but was returned shortly thereafter.
Melanie then told her husband that ever since the day she first saw the puppy, she couldn't stop thinking about him, and so, he took a leap of faith!
Melanie Price was surprised with the news of Newt's adoption!
Her husband, without telling his wife, applied to adopt the little four‑legged friend – and succeeded!
Only after the approval came through did he tell Melanie about the surprise.
At their first meeting, Newt was, according to Price, "fully excited to meet everybody, and everyone was excited to meet him."
He arrived with "full confidence."
The other three dogs quickly won Newt's heart as well. Shortly after the dachshund officially moved in, Melanie created a TikTok account for her new family member: "Newt with the Crooked Snoot."
The clips of the adorable pup went viral fast. Although Melanie is already Newt's third owner, he remains a loving and playful dog. What she loves most about him is "his silliness."
She explained, "He is just like any other dog. Even though he does look different, that doesn’t slow him down. He can do everything that any other dog can do, and relating that to humans too, just because someone looks or acts different doesn't mean that they can't do the same things that everyone else can do."
