Conroe, Texas – When a husky named Shiloh was rescued a few months ago, he looked truly terrible. The team at Montgomery County Animal Shelter had never seen an animal so neglected, and the dog's transformation has left them in awe!
"He was severely malnourished, had overgrown nails and ear infections, and was missing most of his fur," the shelter wrote on Facebook this week.
They also shared several photos showing Shiloh on the day he was admitted – almost no hair remained on the poor creature's legs.
"The fur he had left was severely matted," Shiloh's rescuers explained. The poor animal had clearly been severely neglected.
So, the team immediately came up with a nutrition plan for the dog and got him in the bath to help improve his coat.
Shiloh was treated for two weeks, after which he was placed under the care of a foster owner.
Stacey Pougatcheva soon raved about her furry charge. "He'll rest his head in my lap or lean in for cuddles, and it melts my heart every time," she wrote on Facebook.
In a conversation with The Dodo, she described what she observed in Shiloh in the weeks that followed.
Shiloh is still waiting for his forever home
"He clearly was used to living outside because when he would be in my yard, he would make a little nest and fall asleep in the bushes," Pougatcheva said.
"But now he knows he lives inside, and he comes straight to the door instead of hiding away."
Shiloh, meanwhile, amazed everyone with his rapid recovery.
The roughly nine‑year‑old husky looked, after just three months, as healthy as a perfectly fit pup.
"He looks like a brand-new dog," Pougatcheva said, adding, "I think he's enjoying life."
Sadly, Shiloh hasn't found his forever home just yet. He's only with his foster owner temporarily, so the Montgomery County Animal Shelter is still on the hunt for a permanent owner.
