Lauderhill, Florida – They saw it coming at the start of September. Now, it's happened: Sophie the dog is back at Saving Sage Animal Rescue. She spent several months in a foster home, but that ended this week, and what her caretakers have witnessed since has broken their hearts.

"We are so sad for Sophie," the team wrote on Instagram alongside a video. "Asking for a miracle and someone to give her a chance out of the shelter environment."

In the clip, Sophie sits in her cramped cage, looking utterly broken. Her head is bowed low, her gaze empty.

The furry friend seems to know exactly how dire her situation is.

There are many reasons why being back in the shelter is especially hard for this four‑legged companion.

In an Instagram post from early this month, the shelter staff explained in detail what had happened to the dog.

"Sophie is one of around nine dogs we rescued from the same lot this past year. She has severe separation anxiety," the team explained.

"With her people, she is the calmest, sweetest dog who just wants to cuddle, sleep and lay at your feet."

Sadly, Sophie struggles on her own: "When left alone, she panics, becomes destructive and can hurt herself. Medication unfortunately did very little to help."

For this reason, Sophie has to be housed in a smaller stainless‑steel crate. Still, they try to make her stay easier with long walks and plenty of attention.

"The second she has to go back, her heart is racing, and she is desperately trying to get out. Mentally, this environment is torturing her," the caretakers added.

If no one steps forward for Sophie, she will likely have to be euthanized soon. That's why everyone is now desperately hoping to find someone who can give the dog a home.
