Canada – A female dog who was recently confronted with twin babies and suddenly displayed unusual behavior toward a doll. At first her owner was baffled, but then she realized the touching reason.
For the female dog Smuckers, the world was turned upside down a few months ago when her owner Chloe Ellies gave birth to twin babies.
At first, the four‑legged friend was completely smitten with the babies and loved snuggling up right next to them.
But as the twins started to become mobile and began crawling around, the pup grew very nervous due to their unpredictable movements.
When the dog also started barking at a baby doll, Chloe was at her wit’s end.
"I thought my dog was barking at the toy baby because she was scared of it, but what happened next broke me," the Canadian wrote in her Instagram video.
One day Chloe caught her dog with the doll and discovered that her assumption – that the toy would trigger something negative in Smuckers – was far from the truth.
Sweet dog misses cuddling with the babies
Contrary to her owner's former belief, the female dog loved the doll for a very specific reason.
"One day, I caught her with the doll and realized... it was wearing our babies' clothes. it smelled just like them," she wrote.
Smuckers seemed to have missed cuddling with the babies and can now make up for it with the doll – which, fortunately, doesn’t make any unexpected movements.
Chloe says she is deeply moved by this realization.
"For a little while, she got to cuddle her babies again," she wrote.
The dog mom is relieved that Smuckers isn’t afraid of the toy, but merely wanted her owner to bring it over to her.
In the comments, viewers are also touched.
"She was concerned the baby was left alone on the dresser," said one as another wrote, "Aww Smuckers. Once a nanny, always a nanny."
